This year, the competition resumed its tour of Europe’s leading wine regions, travelling to the Bulgarian town of Plovdiv. Over 8,750 wines from 51 producer countries competed before a selection of the world’s foremost tasters. Sommeliers, buyers, importers, journalists and wine writers – in all, 320 wine tasters representing 54 nationalities gathered for 3 days to judge entries. The diverse range, both of entries and backgrounds of the tasters themselves, is one of the archetypal features of a competition that in just a few years has emerged as a world wine ‘tasting championship’.

Bordeaux Blanc Wine Enthusiast article note 88 ptChâteau Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Blanc 2014 - 88 pt

This is totally fruit-driven wine. With very fresh citrus acidity, it is as crisp as possible while not losing sight of the potential of its white fruits. There is a delicious steely edge as well as great acidity at the end. The wine is a blend from vineyards planted with 60% Sauvignon blanc, 30% Sémillon and 10% Muscadelle. The estate has been in the Le Grix de la Salle family for 100 years.

Bordeaux Supérieur Wine Enthusiast article note 87 ptChâteau Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Supérieur Grande Réserve 2013 - 87 pt

This wine is ripe with attractive blackberry fruits and jammy acidity. The tannins play a fine supporting role, allowing the fruits to develop a warm, rich character. The wine could age, so drink from 2016. The Le Grix de la Salle family’s sons have worked in Napa Valley, New Zealand and Spain before making wine at home. The château is a historical monument .

Clean fruit, pureed not pressed, redcurrant and dark spice, dip mid palate but some ambition

Château Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Supérieur 2010
Score : 90

Well, what we have here: good quality red Bordeaux at a moderate price? You bet. Full-bodied, ripe and polished, Grand Verdus offers up juicy berry fruit backed by integrated tannins, food-friendly acidity and a whisper of mineral. It's great for steak.

While this wine has firm structure, it also has enough fruit weight to balance. On the palate, blackberry juiciness emerges from dark tannins, along with a touch of smokiness and fine acidity on the finish. Drink from 2015. — R.V. (2/1/2014)

Château Le Grand Verdus – Génération - Bordeaux Supérieur 2009 - 89 points

A wine with good depth of flavor, this is uses fruit that was selected from the best parcels of Le Grand Verdus. It has firm tannins, along with flavors of rich black fruits and wood-derived spices. With its weight and concentration, it’s a wine that should age over several years. — R.V. (2/1/2013)

Château Le Grand Verdus – La Grande Réserve - Bordeaux Supérieur 2009 - 88 points

This finely tannic wine features an intensely smoky black-currant flavor. It has good depth of flavor, and as the wine ages further, the fruit will emerge from the tannins. Keep for 3–4 years. — R.V. (2/1/2013)

Château Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Blanc 2012 - 86 points

This is a smooth and soft wine that shows its attractive fruitiness slowly. As it opens, apple, pear and lime flavors become prominent, yielding a wine that is rounded, fruity and fresh. — R.V. (2/1/2014)

Château Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Blanc 2013 - 85 points

This is a ripe, fruity wine, its herbaceous citrus character well blended with full melon and green apple flavors. Already attractive wine, it’s full of crisp acidity and lively fruitiness. — R.V. (10/1/2014)

Decanter Magazine - BORDEAUX 2014- June 2014

Château Le Grand Verdus - Bordeaux Blanc 2013 16.5/20 (88) Recommended

"Philippe and Antoine Le Grix de la Salle have made this blend of 60 % Sauvignon, 30 % Semillion with 10% Muscadelle. Charming nose dominated by the Sauvignon, with some roundness coming in the mid palade. This is foodie, structured, more lemon curd than freshly cut slices. Intense aromatics."

Château Le Grand Verdus - Génération - Bordeaux Supérieur 2012 16.5/20 (88) Recommended

"Dark rich purple, this has a good impact on the attack from an aromatic blend of 70% Merlot and 30 % Cabernet Franc. Firm tannic hold gives a full mouthfeel, with dark brooding damson fruits. It's a big wine, enjoyable"

Bettane & Desseauve 2014

Located at the gateway to Bordeaux, Château Le Grand Verdus has belonged to the Grix de la Salle family for over 200 years. A collaboration of generations - Antoine who first joined his father at the property following a period working with Robert Mondovi and the addition of his two sons Thomas and Edouard- has allowed for constant improvement in quality and innovation at the Chateau. Each one's experience combined with their passion and the Continuing vision has allowed for the production of exceptional wines of balance, charm and character in all three colors.

Philippe and Antoine le Grix de la Salle are father and son working together on the family estate (in fact three generations are working together, hence the name of the wine). The careful family-led approach extends to the viticulture, as they work according to sustainable agriculture with a limited use of pesticides. The blend here is 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, aged 13 months in small oak barrels. The result is good, fresh and fruity. No need to wait, should be perfect in next few years. Dink 2013-2016

Le Grand Verdus 2010 : 2 stars

Four generations on the estate, owned by « Le Grix de la Salle » family for more than two hundred years, and had belonged to Claude Deschamps, builder of the pont de Pierre in Bordeaux.

An estate accustomed to this Guide, which invites us again with this beautiful 2010 supple and fruity. On the nose, ripe red fruits mingle in a wooden notes.

The attack is lively and frank , persistent fruitiness, present tannins but supple, long finish and fine. It is very balanced, coherent, and can be appreciated in the next two years.

Château Le Grand Verdus Grande Réserve, AOC Bordeaux Supérieur 2010 Recommended

Fourth generation of the aristocratic-sounding Le Grix de la Salle family is in charge at this Sadirac property.

A high quality win, managing to be both soft and rich, not aggressive but well structured.

13% alcohol, from 80% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon,11% Cabernet Franc vines.
